Now is YOUR Time to Thrive

Stepping into your new season of life

Japanese women refer to menopause as a "second spring" to symbolize it as a time of renewal and new purpose, rather than a loss of fertility. This perspective, rooted in the Japanese word for menopause, konenki, views this life stage as an opportunity for personal growth, a shift in focus, and the embrace of a new, vibrant phase of life.

You may have just come through foundational teaching and equipping from the Menopause Mama to help you be able to create the foundations for thriving as you enter this new season of life. Perimenopause, which is
the natural transition period leading up to menopause, during which the ovaries gradually decrease hormone production, can be a tumultuous time of new symptoms like hot flashes, mood swings, unrestful sleep at night but unrelenting fatigue during the day and combine all of that with new, stubborn belly fat that just won't budge. Menopause is the next phase, defined as 12 consecutive months without a period and is caused by the ovaries' declining production of the hormones estrogen and progesterone but can also be filled with uncomfortable, ongoing symptoms of hot flashes, fatigue, mood instability and weight gain, ultimately shifting us into a body that we no longer recognize.

Interestingly, the state of your gut microbiome can determine the amount and
intensity of symptoms you experience during these years.

Meet the Estrobolome...the special bacteria in our gut responsible for regulating how much estrogen gets recirculated or excreted.

Could your gut microbiome be affecting your hormonal health during perimenopause or menopause? Watch for these warning signs that suggest your estrobolome may need attention:
  • Digestive discomfort: Persistent bloating, gas, or constipation often indicates an imbalance in gut bacteria that hinders proper digestion and interferes with how your body eliminates estrogen.
  • Food sensitivity development: When the gut lining becomes compromised, your immune system may start reacting to foods it previously tolerated, particularly histamine-rich foods and gluten-containing products.
  • Persistent tiredness: When estrogen isn't properly metabolized and gut bacteria are imbalanced, your cells' energy production and ability to absorb nutrients can suffer, leaving you depleted.
  • Amplified menstrual symptoms: If you're experiencing heightened breast discomfort, emotional shifts, or cramping during your cycle, it could signal that estrogen levels aren't being properly regulated.
  • Intensified vasomotor symptoms: An unhealthy gut disrupts the production of serotonin (with 90% made in your digestive tract), which helps regulate body temperature—potentially making hot flashes and night sweats more severe.
  • Abdominal weight accumulation: Hormonal imbalances combined with inflammation can trigger your body to store excess fat around your midsection.
  • Blood sugar regulation problems: An imbalanced gut microbiome paired with estrogen irregularities can reduce your body's response to insulin, elevating your risk for metabolic conditions.
  • Past antibiotic exposure or ongoing stress: Antibiotic treatments can eliminate beneficial bacteria, while elevated cortisol from chronic stress further disrupts your gut's hormonal processing capabilities.
  • Digestive system conditions: Conditions like IBS, SIBO, and intestinal permeability frequently occur alongside estrobolome dysfunction and compromise estrogen processing.
  • Emotional dysregulation: Since estrogen affects brain chemistry, imbalances can manifest as mood instability, irritability, or depressive symptoms. Your gut bacteria also produce calming neurotransmitters like GABA and dopamine—when disrupted, stress hormone production increases.
  • Unpredictable emotional shifts: Hormonal fluctuations become more problematic when gut health is poor, disrupting brain chemical balance and causing emotional volatility.
  • Menstrual irregularities: When your body can't effectively eliminate estrogen, it can accumulate and cause the uterine lining to thicken excessively, resulting in heavier or irregular bleeding.
  • Breast changes: Tenderness or fibrocystic tissue often indicates that estrogen isn't being properly broken down and is recirculating in your system.
  • Cognitive difficulties: Estrogen supports mental sharpness, so imbalances can lead to concentration problems and mental fogginess, particularly during midlife transitions.
  • Inflammatory skin conditions: When the estrobolome isn't functioning optimally, you may experience hormonal breakouts, rosacea flare-ups, or other inflammatory skin reactions.
  • Decreased sexual interest: Both hormonal dysregulation and gut inflammation can diminish libido and overall hormonal equilibrium.

When our gut is healthy and full of lots of good bacteria, our bodies can bring this time of hormonal dysregulation into balance but when our gut is unhealthy, or full of lots of bad bacteria called dysbiosis, negative hormonal symptoms can be amplified and there can be a domino effect of inflammation and disease.

That's where I come in! I can help you repair your gut by making diet and lifestyle changes to help you thrive as you step into this new season of your life.
